Latino Youth Recognition Day: Wednesday, May 20th, 2015

Eight different public middle schools across Greater Boston were well represented at America’s Most Beloved Ballpark, Fenway Park, last Wednesday, May 20th as El Mundo Newspaper and the Boston Red Sox held their first of three Latino Youth Recognition Days (LYRD) this season.
Twenty one (21) hard working and academic all-stars from Salem, Chelsea, and Everett Schools were publicly recognized during a special on field pre-game ceremony featuring David “Big Papi” Ortiz.
The recognition took place moments before the Red Sox took on the Texas Rangers at historic Fenway Park in front over 37,000 fans.

Honoring Importance of Family as well as Academic
El Mundo’s Latino Youth Recognition Day is aimed at boosting students’ pride in their academic achievement. Another important effect of this event is its unique ability to bring together family members to take pride in one another. Seeing the youth taking their moment in the spotlight and their parents taking joy in witnessing such a moment brings great satisfaction to all El Mundo, Red Sox and LYRD staffers.

Part of El Mundo’s Latino Youth Recognition Day program at Fenway Park includes the singing of the National Anthem by a local Latino artist or singer. On May 20th, Danny Donato of Lynn, MA was called upon to offer his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Donato was superb as he wowed the crowd and most importantly, his mom Cassandra Delgado (Lady Cash).
