The most prestigious awards show in the Latin music world will air live from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on the Telemundo network on April 25th, at 8pm EST, as well as on Spanish-language entertainment network, Universo, and throughout the Americas via Telemundo internacional, with renowned actress, TV host and influencer, Gaby Espino slated to return for the fourth time to host the Billboard Latin Music Awards. Other award presenters will include: Host of “Caso Cerrado” Ana Maria Polo; “Betty en NY” stars Elyfer Torres and Erick Elias, “Preso No. 1” actor Erik Hayser, actors Isabela Moner and Eugenio Derbez from the upcoming film “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” “Manifest” actor J.R. Ramirez, host of “La Voz” Jacky Bracamontes, “Un Poquito Tuyo” actors Jorge Salinas and Marjorie de Sousa, Puerto Rican singer Kany Garcia, “La Reina del Sur 2” actors Kate Del Castillo and Mark Tacher, VP Latin Industry Lead for Billboard Leila Cobo, Regional Mexican artist Lupillo Rivera, Latin urban artist Natti Natasha, Puerto Rican singer Pedro Capó, Mexican singer and songwriter Sofia Reyes, and Mexican Electrocumbia artist Raymix.
This year, international famed artist Juan Luis Guerra will be honored with a Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding 35-year career. While the Billboard Latin Music Awards are given out based solely on chart performance, every year Billboard, together with Telemundo, also bestows its Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award to an artist with an enduring and exceptional career, who has expanded the reach of Latin music, whose contributions go beyond music and whose influence has had a major impact on Latin music worldwide. Past recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include Carlos Santana, Jose José, Marco Antonio Solis, Maná and Ricardo Arjona, among others.
Fans are also highly anticipating performances by international pop superstar Marc Anthony, the King of Bachata Romeo Santos, renowned singer, songwriter and actress Becky G, Puerto Rican rapper extraordinaire Wisin, singer, pop rock Mexican band Reik, Latin trap movement pioneer Anuel, Brazilian sensation Anitta, Latin pop Colombian singer and songwriter Sebastian Yatra, Ozuna, Carlos Vives, Bad Bunny, CNCO, Banda MS and Karol G, with more to be announced soon.
Nominations:
Following is the complete list of finalists, but here is a summary of interesting points:
Ozuna leads the list of nominations with a record-breaking 23 in 15 categories, which is the most ever in the history of the awards show. This includes the coveted Artist of the Year category as well as Hot Latin Songs artist of the year, male and songwriter of the year. He’s also twice nominated (for “Te Boté” and “Taki Taki”) in Hot Latin Song and Hot Latin Song Vocal categories, AND, he’s up against himself in the Top Latin Album of the Year category for his 2018 Aura and his 2017 Odisea albums.
Following Ozuna in number of nominations are both J. Balvin and Nicky Jam with 13 each, Bad Bunny with 12, and Daddy Yankee with 8, all of whom are competing for Artist of the Year (with the exception of Nicky Jam). Interestingly, the ladies are hot as well, as the final list of nominees for Best New Artist includes female artists (Natti Natasha and Karol G who is competing with her beau Anuel AA) for the first time in six years. And while the majority of the finalists are relative newcomers, the Tour of the Year category holds nominations of long-established and respected Latin artists, Jennifer Lopez, Luis Miguel, Romeo Santos and Shakira. Crossover Artist of the Year nominees include Cardi B, Demi Lovato, DJ Snake and of course, Drake.
