As part of the evening’s El Mundo Boston’s Latino Youth Recognition Day festivities, four year old Evan Reyes of Lynn, Massachusetts and a happy attendee at the Gregg House Pre-school initiated the ball game between the Cleveland Indians and the Boston Red Sox with the famous words that everyone loves to hear before a game: “Play Ball!

It was an especially cool moment since little Evan’s mom Josephina Reyes of Salem, was a Latino Youth Recognition Day honored student back in September of 2001, when she was a middle school student at the Collins Middle School.

“This brings back so many great memories of that day and to be here with my son, husband and mom is even sweeter. This is another special day here at Fenway Park that I will never forget,”, expressed Josephina with a wide smile.

El Mundo Boston and the Boston Red Sox have been recognizing academic all-stars from public middle schools for the past 24 years. Our next LYRD ceremony will honor students from East Boston on June 12th and on July 16th, honored students from the Lawrence public middle schools will be recognized.
