For Puerto Rican singer PJ Suela, music was a hobby growing up. While he continued to tinker with it throughout his high school years and beyond, his focus turned to college where he continued on to medical school and achieved his doctorate in medicine. But after this emerging artist from Ponce (he was born in the Bronx but grew up in Puerto Rico) accomplished his medical career goal, he decided to focus full time on his passion for music, which often contains themes related to politics, social justice and just “things that happen in the world,” says PJ. He attributes much of his success to people simply being able to relate to normal, everyday things, whether good or bad, because they’re real.

And it has paid off. PJ opened up for Residente during his tours in 2017 and 2018, has been named by Pandora as one of their Latin Artists to Watch in 2018, and by Billboard Magazine as one of their 10 Latin Artists to watch in 2019. His recent remix of his original song “La Pelúa” which he collaborated with Jon Z, Rafa Pabón, and “ReBoTa” singer Guaynaa is hitting the charts. The video for it just dropped and it depicts the fun every day scenes in Puerto Rico, filled with music, dancing and general playfulness. This unique collaboration among such great artists happened because fans asked for it via Instagram – and they delivered. He told us that he asked his fans “who would you like to see in the remix” and they responded with these guys”. PJ adds, “I aleady had a great relationship with all three of them, they were interested in making the remix. So we got together one day – everyone got on board quickly.”

And now, PJ Suela is headlining his own US Tour, and will be at the Middle East in Boston this week, on Thursday, September 5. Tickets can be purchased here:
