Boston Marathon bombing hero Carlos Arredondo and his wife Melida will be the Grand Marshalls for the Saint Patrick Peace Parade, the alternative parade, in South Boston on Sunday, March 16th.

Veterans For Peace, the organizer of this second parade, will once again march one mile behind the traditional parade with approximately 2,500 participants – much smaller than the traditional annual parade which draws more than 600,000 visitors to Boston.

“We should all come together…and allow everyone, straight, gay, peace, old and young to all participate together celebrating Saint Patrick,” added Arredondo.

Boston is home to America’s first St. Patrick’s Day celebration in 1737, and the city still boasts one of the nation’s largest, but has come under fire in recent years for its ban on gay groups.
