For the past seven years, El Mundo Newspaper has been bringing together a wide array of folks from across the Commonwealth to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month in a joyous setting. Featuring humor as the main course, the annual El Mundo Hispanic Heritage Breakfast did not disappoint this year, bringing laughs and smiles to the over 500 attendees at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel on Friday, September 30th.
The fun was kicked off by Governor of Massachusetts Charlie Baker and Mayor of Boston Marty J. Walsh. They were followed by a starstudded cast that included some of the area’s most recognizable figures, such as Boston Red Sox President Sam Kennedy and Boston City Council President Michelle Wu among others. All special guests, enjoyed a morning highlighting the many idiosyncrasies and characteristics particular to the local Latino community.
During the Breakfast, we also served honor to the first Latino elected as the Boston City Council, Felix D. Arroyo, who for more than 40 years has built an unmatched legacy and record of serving his community. For this and many other reasons Arroyo was recognized with El Mundo Boston’s 2016 Hispanic Heritage Breakfast Lifetime Achievement Award.
Also recognized was Tufts Health Plan as the Corporate Partner of the Year, because of its consistent participation and continued support during this year El Mundo Boston community initiatives such as the Latino Career Expo, the Latino Family Festival, the Hispanic Heritage Breakfast and our special print Health Editions.
Last but not least, Cristo Rey Boston High School was the recipient of our Community Partner of the Year Award for its commitment to serving families of limited economic means, providing quality education to its students with college preparatory courses.
