If you’ve ever eaten in a “Chick-fil-A” restaurant, you are probably aware that this family-owned restaurant company is known across the country for its orginal chicken sándwich, served in over 1,800 restaurants in 39 states.
What you might not know is that it has recently entered into a partnership with “THRIVE Farmers”, which is a platform designed to offer farmers direct access to the marketplace for their coffee. Through “THRIVE Farmers”, large companies nationwide enter into long-term partnerships with farmers to help create economic stability for these farmers.
According to “THRIVE Farmers”, the platform helps farmers stabilize demand at fixed prices which translates into farmers receiving a much higher fixed percentage of the revenue generated for their coffee. Many times the volatile commodity market prices and demand can have devastating effects on hard working farmers across the globe.
With this model, farmers benefit from the added value and fixed revenue from his crop to support his family and community, while also investing in the future.
Chick–fil–A’s new partnership with “THRIVE Farmers” has also led to offering the fast food industry’s first–ever specialty–grade coffee.
At the same time, Chick-fil-A explains that this partnership is delivering economic stability to “THRIVE Farmer’s” network of family farmers in Central America, allowing them to earn up to 10 times more than they could earn through traditional coffee revenue and distribution models.
“What I hope is that all farmers like myself will have a better future, because the future is not only for me, it’s for my family, it’s for my workers…” Vinicio González, a THRIVE coffee farmer from Concepción Pinula.
By eliminating the extra layers in the traditional supply chain, the “THRIVE Farmers” earn much more through the relationship with Chick-fil-A. This relationship, in turn, brings economic sustainability to the Central American farmers – through reinvestment in their communities and crops.
