Well, the boys are back in town, and they came in with a bang. On Wednesday, June 24th and Thursday June 25th, Boston’s own home grown New Kids on the Block, hit the TD Garden with sold out shows featuring the 90’s band TLC and pop phenomenon Nelly for two sold out performances. Nelly kicked things off, getting the crowd going with his dancers and music that just makes you bounce. Then TLC stole the show with a serious walk down memory lane, and a wonderful tribute to their fallen sister, Lisa Left Eye Lopes when they dedicated the song “Waterfalls” to her, while the crowd lit up the venue with their cell phones. After proper “throwback” time, NKOTB came in as the “Main Event,” dressed as boxers and with a video introduction from the famous “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble” guy, Michael Buffer.
The Beantown boys did not disappoint, singing both their old classics as well as their newest tunes, and ended on a homage to their roots and the city of Boston. They played “Sweet Caroline” and the famous Dropkick Murphy’s “I’m Shipping up to Boston” and finished with their signature “Step by Step.” Of course, there was no lack of fanfare, with fireworks, smoke and confetti all over the place. Fans left happy, with many of them vowing to return to the second show. El Mundo, once again, as we did more than 20 years ago, was there to welcome them home. Hope they stick around and maybe come see us. Welcome home, fellas!
